Fifth generation farming brothers, Art and Doug McIntosh, found themselves humbled and honored in hearing that they were this year's recipients of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Agriculture for Marketing Innovation.
This statewide annual award is presented by the Governor during the Idaho Agriculture Summit in Boise, Idaho. There are five individual categories in which a committee of peers and state leaders nominate and select the worthy beneficiaries. Categories include; Education/Advocacy, Environmental Stewardship, Marketing Innovation, Technical Innovation and Lifetime Achievement.
This year, the McIntosh Brothers were recognized as outstanding in the area of Marketing Innovation. This designation identifies an individual or group that demonstrates excellence and effectiveness of individual programs conducted in an effort to develop or increase sales of Idaho food or agriculture products, internationally or domestically. This may include the development and use of new markets, new marketing methods or new uses for agriculture products and/or services. The McIntoshes were celebrated for their efforts with regard to both their Harvest Ridge Organics, a local premium whole-wheat organics line, as well as their work with Lindsay Creek Vineyards.
Art McIntosh stated, "I have been attending this event for the past 7 years, and I never thought that we would receive anything like this. To be recognized on the same level as those recipients before us, is exceptionally humbling." An equally thrilled, Doug McIntosh noted, "We are so glad to be able to provide local wine, certified organic products and a place for people to gather with family and friends."

San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition - 2017Lewiston, ID- Thursday, February 2, 2017
3 wines submitted, 3 awarded
- 2013 Merlot- Best of Class
- 2014 Riesling- Gold Medal
- 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon- Silver Medal
Lindsay Creek Vineyards received extraordinarily high praise in this year's San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Already deemed the largest of American wine competitions in the world, its popularity and notoriety continue to grow as illustrated by this year's, record breaking, 7,000+ wine entries.
Competition was steep, but this young winery was able to stand out in the crowd. In total, Lindsay Creek Vineyards entered three separate wines, and all three placed in the event. Among these entries were the 2014 Riesling ($15) receiving gold and the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon ($24) awarded silver. However, the greatest recognition was earned by the 2013 Merlot ($22) which was bestowed Best of Class.
While each award is an honor, the most exciting merit of the night was the 2013 Merlot's Best of Class. This designation is the highest possible accolade within a category; surpassing even the coveted double gold honors. The category was competitive, including the likes of many established and reputable brands such as Ferrari-Carano, Rodney Strong and St. Francis. Winemaker, Art McIntosh, shared, "to win against the best of what California had to offer was incredibly humbling; and I am elatedto hear that people really appreciate and believe in the wines we are making." McIntosh felt that the fruit showed extremelywell within the variety. "We started with high quality fruit and the flavors came through exceptionally well." Unfortunately, this celebrated wine is approaching the end of its release, so supply is limited to enjoy this particular vintage. However, Lindsay Creek Vineyards anticipates release of their upcoming 2014 Merlot sometime in the next couple of months. And rumor has it this new release may very well one-up its predecessor.
These outstanding wines can be found in select stores, restaurants, and direct from the Lindsay Creek Vineyards' Tasting Room*. For information on locations to purchase, online orders and more, visit the Lindsay Creek Vineyards website at www.lcvineyards.com.
